PUNTA DE LA MONA (DEEPER DIVING + BOAT ACCESS)
Working with one of the longest-established dive centres on the Costa Del Sol, Wahoo Divers Malaga can offer some exhilarating boat dives around Punta de la Mona, accessing dive sites that cannot easily be reached from shore.
Located along the outer edges of the Punta de la Mona headland near La Herradura, the boat allows quick and comfortable access to several outstanding dive sites. These include deep reef dives, drift dives and dramatic wall dives, making this area one of the most exciting locations for scuba diving on the Costa del Sol
All dives are planned according to the prevailing sea and weather conditions on the day, ensuring both safety and the best possible diving experience.
We currently have three dive sites accessible by boat, each offering unique underwater landscapes and marine life. However, it often takes many dives to fully explore and appreciate everything these Punta de la Mona dive sites have to offer.
This makes it suitable for all levels. However, some deeper areas are better for experienced divers.

1. Tres Picos ( Three peaks) – 20 Mtrs
Tres Picos, meaning “Three Peaks”, is one of the most impressive dive sites around Punta de la Mona near La Herradura. The site takes its name from three large rock formations that rise dramatically from the seabed. As a result, they create striking underwater scenery and an exciting dive for experienced divers.
The dive usually begins along the reef. From there, it descends toward the deeper pinnacles. These formations create ledges, small caves and crevices. Because of this, they provide shelter for a wide variety of Mediterranean marine life.
Divers frequently encounter moray eels, conger eels, scorpionfish and octopus. In addition, you can often spot colourful nudibranchs on the reef. Larger species such as groupers and schools of bream also patrol the area.
Due to the depth and open water, Tres Picos attracts pelagic species passing through. Depths reach around 40 metres. Therefore, advanced divers or those with deep diving experience should dive this site.
Overall, the dramatic terrain and clear water make Tres Picos one of the highlights of scuba diving at Punta de la Mona and the Costa Tropical.
2. Las Calita ( The Cove ) – 25 Mtrs
Las Calita is a beautiful dive site along the coastline of Punta de la Mona near La Herradura. In particular, it offers an enjoyable dive across rocky reef formations and sandy seabed.
The dive begins in shallow water. It then descends gradually along the reef. Large rocks, ledges and small crevices shape the terrain. As a result, these features provide shelter for a wide range of marine life.
Divers often encounter octopus, moray eels and scorpionfish. In addition, colourful nudibranchs are easy to spot on the reef. Schools of bream and other fish also move through the area.
With moderate depths and varied terrain, Las Calita provides a relaxed yet rewarding dive. Therefore, many divers choose this site when exploring Punta de la Mona and the Costa Tropical.
Nitrox is recommended for this dive.
3. Punta de La Mona (Mona’s Point) – 40 Mtrs
Punta de la Mona, also known as Mona’s Point, is one of the most dramatic dive sites near La Herradura. Located at the tip of the headland, the site offers impressive underwater terrain.
The dive follows the reef as it slopes into deeper water. Along the way, divers explore rock formations, ledges and small caves. These features create shelter for many species.
Divers commonly encounter moray eels, conger eels, scorpionfish and octopus. In addition, you can find colourful nudibranchs on the reef. Larger fish, including groupers and schools of bream, regularly patrol the area.
Because of its exposed position, the site can experience gentle currents. As a result, larger fish often pass through the area.
Overall, the combination of depth, structure and marine life makes this one of the standout dives in the region. Many divers consider it a highlight of scuba diving at Punta de la Mona and La Herradura.
