1. El Punto de Cerro Gordo (Fat Hill Point!)

El Punto de Cerro Gordo follows a gently descending route where the base of the cliff meets the sandy seabed. As a result, it offers a relaxed and easy dive profile. This makes it an enjoyable way to explore the rocky coastline while scuba diving in Calahonda on the Costa del Sol.

As you follow the reef, the dive reaches the corner of the cliff at around 18 metres. From here, you can continue deeper to approximately 22 metres into the next small cove. Alternatively, you can stay shallower and return along the reef.

The area contains large rocks and boulders. Because of this, it provides excellent hiding places for Mediterranean marine life. At the same time, the vertical cliff face creates dramatic underwater scenery.

Divers often encounter schools of juvenile fish, anemones and soft corals along the wall. In addition, you may spot electric rays resting on the sandy seabed.

2. Arrecife de Paso (Step Reef)

Arrecife de Paso, or Step Reef, explores a reef located in a sheltered corner of the beach. The dive begins by following the seabed out to around 12 metres. Then, it turns back toward the reef.

A series of natural “steps” in the rock formations guide the route along the base of the cliff. As a result, navigation is simple and enjoyable.

This reef is often full of juvenile fish. Therefore, it is an excellent location for observing Mediterranean marine life. Because the dive stays close to the cliff, bringing a torch is recommended to explore cracks and crevices.

With its varied structure and active marine life, Arrecife de Paso is one of the most enjoyable dive sites in Calahonda. In addition, it is ideal for night diving, when many nocturnal species become active.

Diving in Calahonda offers enjoyable and accessible scuba diving on the Costa del Sol. The area includes rocky reefs, sandy seabeds and small underwater structures.

As a result, these habitats attract a wide variety of Mediterranean marine life. Divers often encounter octopus, moray eels, nudibranchs and scorpionfish. In addition, schools of bream move across the reef.

Because of its convenient location, Calahonda is a popular choice for divers exploring southern Spain. It also offers relaxed and rewarding dive conditions.

Wahoo Divers Malaga regularly organises dives in this area. Therefore, you can experience some of the most enjoyable scuba diving in the Costa Tropical.
